Few people embody this spirit better than Hawys Davies, a Deck Officer Cadet, from Pembrokeshire, Wales, who is now in her final phase of her cadetship. Her journey is one of resilience, curiosity and a passion for learning – qualities that will undoubtedly pave the way for her successful career at sea.
North Star has officially named its first commissioning service operation vessel (CSOV), the Grampian Kestrel. The vessel was named at a ceremony at VARD’s shipyard in Tomrefjord, Norway, Vard Langsten on Tuesday 6 May.
Two advanced CSOVs - NB 975 and NB 976 - are now alongside the quay at Vard Langsten, Norway, marking an important step in the long lasting cooperation between North Star and VARD.
As part of our ‘Meet the Team’ series, we’re excited to introduce the incredible people behind North Star who help drive our success across the business. Steve Myers is based in the North East of England near the Port of Tyne where our Dogger Bank Wind Farm vessels operate from, approximately halfway between the Lowestoft and Aberdeen offices. Perfectly situated to work from our Grampian SOV’s. From his early days as a cadet to helping lead one of the most exciting offshore wind projects in Europe, Steve’s story is one of passion, purpose and perfect timing.
North Star has become the first organisation in the world to have ships achieve Lloyd’s Register’s Cyber Resilience classification, in line with mandatory International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) standards implemented for all newbuilds from 1 July 2024.

North Star and its shipbuilding partner, Cochin Shipyard Ltd. has cut first steel on EnBW’s new hybrid-electric service operations vessel (SOV). It is on schedule to commence a decade-long minimum charter to service the He Dreiht wind farm off the coast of Germany from the end of 2026.
